The JMAcoustic APEs are 40mm spherical acoustic baffles for use with omnidirectional microphones.
The APE is also known as an Acoustic Pressure EQ, Acoustic Sphere, Microphone Sphere, or Spherical Baffle. This spherical attachment subtly boosts high frequencies of on-axis signals and makes the microphone more directional in the higher register.
The 40mm sphere is most commonly associated with the Neumann M50 microphone design and the Decca Tree. Many engineers like the way this attachment boosts presence without affecting low end in choral and orchestral recordings. Many comment that APEs make the mics sound closer than they actually are. Great for room mics or the 'diffuse field'.
APEs on Reverb.comJMAcoustic designs microphone positioning systems. Our systems are designed and developed by recording engineers for real-world situations.
JMA systems will not droop, sag or otherwise lose their geometry during use. Our mic clips are durable, easy to use, quick to position, and offer consistent, reliable and repeatable results without endless fiddling or adjustment. Unlike typical stereo bars, JMAcoustic positioners are precisely tuned for optimum stereo imaging.
